Terroir Artisan Butter is made slowly, deliberately, and entirely by hand in small batches using 100% A2 grass-fed cream from small-scale, biodynamic Alberta dairy farms. We culture our cream for 48 hours before churning, allowing natural dairy cultures to develop depth, aroma, and subtle tang. The result is a butter that is rich, layered, and quietly indulgent.

Each block is then kneaded. and salted by hand with sea salt from Salt Spring Sea Salt located on the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia between mainland British Columbia, Canada, and Vancouver Island. This process enhances both texture and flavour.

Every block is finally shaped, and wrapped by hand in our chinoiserie butter paper, just as butter was meant to be. No machines stamping uniform perfection. No shortcuts. Each 225g block carries the slight variations that only human hands can leave behind.

This is table butter in the truest sense. Butter you leave out for dinner. Butter you break bread with.

Why Terroir Artisan Butter Is Different

  • Naturally Cultured for 48 Hours

Grass-fed cream is cultured for 48 hours, then chilled and tempered before churning. This slow fermentation develops a deeper flavour and a refined tang that standard butter simply does not have.

  • 84% Butterfat for Superior Texture

At 84% butterfat, our butter is richer and silkier than conventional 80% butter. It spreads smoothly, melts beautifully, and delivers a lingering finish.

  • Sea Salt, Folded by Hand

We use sea salt from Salt Spring Sea Salt, crystallized naturally by sun and wind. Salt is added and folded in by hand, enhancing flavour while gently preserving the butter

  • Slow Churned for Depth and Silkiness

The cream is churned slowly to maximize texture and flavour development. No high-speed industrial shortcuts.

  • Kneaded to Perfection

After churning, the butter is kneaded to remove excess moisture and refine mouthfeel. This step creates the dense, luxurious texture chefs look for.

  • Shaped and Wrapped by Hand

Each 225g block is formed, finished, and wrapped in our chinoiserie butter paper by hand. Subtle shaping marks are part of its character, not a flaw.

  • Only Three Pure Ingredients

Cream, natural dairy cultures, and sea salt.

No additives. No colours. No preservatives.

  • 100% A2 Grass-Fed Western Canadian Cream

Sourced from regional, human-scale dairy farms. The colour shifts naturally with the seasons, brighter in spring and summer, more subtle in fall and winter.  A2 cream refers to cream from cows that only have the A2/A2 beta casein in their milk.  A2 milk is often found to be easier to digest amongst people who have issues digesting A1 beta casein which is generally found in basic dairy products.
